ERC20 token generator comparison

Create your own ERC20 token without prior coding knowledge with these tools that offer a variety of features.

As I recently delved in to the decentralized finance space of the crypto world, the curious side of me started looking up the nuances of all the moving parts that make up a project/token in this booming new space.

At the very core of things there are at a high level two parts to the story — the backend and the frontend, similar to how most technology projects work outside of the crypto space. The backend part in this case are the Ethereum contracts and tokens. Contracts on the Ethereum blockchain are responsible for setting up the core functionality and work by the way of issuing tokens that are tradable assets. Enter ERC standards of Ethereum which is a bit out of scope of this article but you can read more about it here.

As you start going through some of the information on these contracts/tokens it quickly becomes evident that they can unlock true potential of ideas and projects that fall beyond the realm of standard channels of funding. The challenge posed however is the technical aspect of creating these tokens. You would either have to hire a good developer who has experience how to build these contracts written in Solidity programming language or go down the path of teaching yourself how to do the same.

Fortunately there are a few products out there that help non-technical folks get started on and deep dive in to ERC20 based projects with ideas that they already have and that is what this review will cover at a high level. So let’s get started right away with the comparison chart!

Comparison chart for ERC20 token generators

STVKE Network

Fairly new product that has been launched recently but has a lot of promise. Not only does it provide the most amount of features out of all the products, it does so with very low cost. The minor details of all the aspects of the project are also controlled by community governance, so if you hold STV token (their own token issued for holders) you can vote on all governance aspects of the project and have a say in things such as price requirements, future roadmap, request features etc. You can also manage the tokens that you created and change options after they have been deployed to the Ethereum blockchain.

Vittominacori

Vittominacori is a product that has been around for a while now and provides similar features compared to STVKE Network except that you cannot create your own governance based ERC20 tokens. The price point to be able to use some of the high end features for this one are about the highest out there right now.

Guarda

I didn’t really want to include this one in the review but decided to do so since it does come up as one of the top hits on Google. What’s prohibitive about this service to users is that they require you to create a custom wallet just for their site and it won’t work with existing wallets such as Metamask. That in itself would be a turn off for most users and there is no clear information on the site regarding the pricing of creating tokens.

Tokenmint

Again, similar service compared to the two above but provides very basic token creation features and without a token management UI to go with it. No information regarding pricing and feature unlocks makes one a bit hesitant to use it, after all you don’t want to know the fees charged after the first time you have used it only to wake up to a nasty bill :)

Coinmechanic

This is again one of the top search results that comes up on Google search. There is not much information on this site as it appears to be in BETA as of the date/time of writing this article. Most of the links on their site point back to a medium that has no posts on it — hard to trust a site with that less of information let alone even give it a try.

In summary, there are quite a few options out there that allow you to create your own ERC20 tokens and build projects on and hopefully this article gives you some directional information on what to expect and lookout for when choosing the right product. If you have ever tried any of these products or have information that could be updated, please leave a comment.
